Is it possible to transform New Mexico’s megadrought into an opportunity for renewal—and even global leadership in sustainability? At Water Wise, we’ll explore how innovation, policy, and local action can help us better channel our most precious resource in a world of climate extremes.
This invigorating session features expert voices and community champions who are turning crisis into momentum:
- Environmental Educator Keith Julian brings global insight from his work across the U.S., Africa, Central America, and Asia. He’ll break down what megadrought means—and what’s at stake if we ignore it.
- Water Engineer John D’Antonio, who has served under four New Mexico governors and with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will offer a powerful look at the role of smart policy and where we go from here.
- Reese Baker, founder and owner of The RainCatcher, will share how his work in permaculture and rain harvesting is helping local communities respond to water scarcity with creativity and care.
- The conversation will be moderated by Ward Hendon, Santa Fe-based climate tech investor, co-founder of Dangerous Ventures, and board member of the New Mexico Climate Investment Center.
We’ll also celebrate community resilience with the BEYOND PROFIT Local Hero Awards, a quarterly recognition of two changemakers helping New Mexico lead in sustainability and innovation:
- Local Hero Award
Honoring a seasoned Santa Fe leader or organization making a transformative impact on our region’s environmental and social well-being. This quarter’s finalists: Desert Verde Farm, Free Flow New Mexico, and Girls Inc. - Emerging Local Hero Award
Celebrating a rising changemaker from the UNM Anderson CRE Accelerator network. This quarter’s award goes to: we.grow.eco, a grassroots organization dedicated to transforming environmental awareness into creative community action through art, education, and storytelling.
Come for the fresh ideas, stay for the inspiration, and leave ready to help New Mexico adapt, thrive, and lead the way forward in the face of climate change.
